Polaris back in action! Finally.
And back in action in such a good way. This is the issue where Lorna
and Alex finally resolve their differences. I think everyone will
be surprised by the maturity and class shown by X-Factor writer Howard
Mackie (I believe this is a career first) In a nutshell Alex sets up a
meeting between himself and Lorna to talk things out. She, of course,
ends up saving his life when Henry Gyrich and a squad of Mandroids show
up to arrest Alex for terrorist actions. I found the entire "Love
on the run" aspect of it a little tiresome and thought it might have been
improved if Mackie had left the action out of it, leaving room for even
more character exploration. But hey, I know what sells comic books.
In the end Scott Jr and Miss Dane
break things off with amazing sensitivity and panache. There were
many times in the book where it felt as if Mackie was forcing the entire
issue, but the end result was ultimately satisfying, if not entirely based
in reality (Come on, if Lorna were your girlfriend would you just let her
slip away without a fight? would you?)
In regard to pencils by Lee
Moder, yuck. These are action heros, not heroin junkies.
