This issue has been at the center
of so much contoversy in past months that it was almost sure to be somewhat
of a disapointment. This is, of course, the issue that marks the cancellation
of X-Factor and the rise of Mutant X. Truthfully I felt that our heroes
deserved a much better send off. The plot here seems rushed and clumsy
as well as the dialoge (something fans of this book have almost come to
expect in recent years. Peter David where are you?!) I felt that Greystone's
sudden development of "temporal insanity" was all too sudden, as well as
the sudden inclusion of Madrox and Polaris back into the fold. It almost
feels as if there is a missing issue out there somewhere. 148 1/2 anyone?
This is a classic case of Marvel pushing it's writers to produce before
the product is even finished. I would have had a lot more respect for Mackie
if he had let the demise of X-Factor unfold naturally over a course of
months. Havok's demise gave me no great personal pleasure, in fact I felt
that he might have been deserving of something better.
As for the art, rushed and clumsy
fits the bill here as well (something fans of this book have also almost
come to expect.) While I found it an improvement over Mr "I'm a heroin
addict" Moder, I still thought it lacked vitality and creativity. It was
technically sound, but visually boring.
