Rules of Engagement - Uncanny X-Men #421 & 422

Havok may have been back for a few issues now but 421 marks his official homecoming, and his official reunion with Polaris. One word. Yuck.
Lorna is getting creepier and creepier, first cattily dismissing Nurse Annie and then not only chewing on Alex but begging him to marry her as well. I don't know which disturbed me more.  To Alex's credit (and those familar to this site know how much this means coming from me) he didn't say yes. Exactly. He didn't say no either. But by the end of the issue it was pretty obvious that he has returned to his old skirt chasing ways and is eager to get to know Nurse Annie a little better. I have numerous problems with this issue, as I'm sure many of you would have guessed. Lorna is a psycho. Again. I have come to terms (kind of) with the fact that this is how she is doomed to carry out her meager existence in the Marvel Universe. It was only under Peter David's pencil that she emerged as a bright, witty, sarcastic and strong individual.  What bothered me more was everyone's utter lack of reaction when presented with the emerging psychosis of Miss Dane. She is obviously unwell. Some X-Man needs to stage an intervention before it's too late and she tries to take over the world or something.
It wasn't all bad, however.  I was glad that Chuck Austen didn't sweep the fact that our happy couple had broken up prior to Alex's interdimensional departure under a rug. With the lack of respect for continuity present in the Marvel Universe lately that was refreshing. And the art was nice.
Issue 422 finds Lorna, Alex and Nightcrawler (huh?) partcipating in an archeological dig to unwind a bit.  Well, actually, Kurt and Alex are on the dig and Lorna is on the phone.  With a "Mom" previously unmentioned in the comics.  I am assuming that this is her aunt.  She chatters away while people die and the secrets of millenia old mutants are revealed in a postively premenstrual tone.  The only part I truly enjoyed was my new favorite Polaris quote - "I just haven't got the patience for sstupid people these days."  Well, sweetheart, maybe you shouldn't surround yourself with them then.
As for the will they or won't the question: I think Alex will back out of their impending nuptuials at the very last minute. I should be overjoyed, right? (for those of you who don't know, I'm not what you would call a fan of the Lorna/Alex aka Scott&Jean Jr. idea) Wrong. I think being dumped at the altar will be the last straw on the already tenuous sanity of Polaris.  The only way they could redeem this is by raising her to Magneto caliber villan status as a result. We shall see in 30.
