Here they are folks! The results
to our first official Polaris Opinion Poll.
THE RECAP:
Ok, it's time for some more honesty. I hate Havok.
I think his relationship with Lorna has kept her character from developing,
and well, I think he can be just plain nasty
to her. He leaves her to be possessed by Malice, he doesn't do much to
help remedy
that little problem, and instead falls into bed
with his brother's wife. During the Peter David days of X-Factor (the golden
age as
far as character development and interaction
IMHO) their relationship was largely up in the air, and filled with a lot
of tension.
But now that they are apart I see his character
developing in some interesting directions, and I see the potential for
her's to do
the same. In short, I think it's time to seperate
them into two people instead of "Havok's girlfriend" and "Lorna's man".
What do
you think? Should they: STAY TOGETHER, STAY APART,
BE JUST FRIENDS, CAN WE SAY "MICKEY AND MALLORY"
THE RESULTS:
Now that the official Marvel results are in (X-FACTOR
#148) it's time to see how your opinons stack up. It's pretty much dead
even:
STAY APART: 42%
STAY TOGETHER: 41%
OTHER: 17%
THE RATIONALE:
Here's what some voters from both sides of the
fence had to say:
In regards to staying apart -
"OK, when you try to kill your girlfriend
you should be put in jail.
Press charges, Lorna!"
"They should stay apart, because Alex is
not Scott and Lorna is not Jean. One
wedding is enough ! Seriously, writers should
give Lorna more personnality (I
think it's on the way) : she deserves more
than being the (ex)girlfriend of
Havok or the female Magneto. "
"Polaris stops angsting over Havok and after
her jaw mends (is it even close
yet?) she goes to confront him. He
shows his true colors as an evil, malicious,
womanizing bastard, and Polaris tears him
a new verbal asshole. Of course,
Havok lets loose and slaps her. Polaris,
having had enough (and also having
attended a few New York Riot Grrrrls meetings)
lets loose on Alex with her happy
magnetic power, in which she magnetizes all
the iron in his blood, sucking it
out of him, causing him to die of advanced
sickle cell anemia. She moves on,
embracing her womanhood and newfound strength,
and hooks up with a bunch of the
X men, finding happiness in a swingin' lifestyle."
In regards to staying together -
"Wow I gotta say Havok is my boy. And
Polaris is my girl. I think they have
both developed over the years.
I always hated how they both were put on the
back burner and I was disappointed that Polaris
nevver got to be part of the
X-Men with Havok when they were at
their best (in my opinion issues around
229-245ish). But I always liked them
TOGETHER. That's one thing I liked, no
matter what, thick or thin, brainwashing
or no brainwashing they were in it
together! I have to agree with
you on the point that Polaris never quite got
the attention she deserved. I stopped
readin a year/year and a half ago, when
it seemed like Havok was brainwashed AGAIN
and was ready to kill Polaris. I
couldn't stand to see it again. I think
these two need to be together, and
should be. They are connected by so much
it only seems fair to have a happy
ending! "
"I think they should stay together, mostly
because they've been together for such
a long time in continuity, and I don't think
they'd just quit like that. I
would see their relationship shanging a bit,
as both charcters have changed a
lot since their days of living in a shack
in the middle of the desert not
wanting to get involved in any "super-heroing"
anymore."
And there you have it folks!
